Lamborghini, the Italian automobile manufacturer has taken the first step into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, which is dubbed the Space Key, is a piece created in collaboration with an unknown artist. The unique NFT is a tangible item that connects to exclusive digital artwork accessible through an QR code on the back. The project is limited and will be auctioned off over the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material which Lamborghini, in the course of a research project in 2019 and sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was created into a distinctive artwork after it returned to Earth. The physical piece is equipped with an NFT serial code that connects to the digital artwork via QR code on the back.

For those who aren't in the aware, NFTs are unique identification numbers that are stored on a distributed blockchain ledger that is linked to digital assets such as a video, image, music or other record. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity, and the trackability of their tokens through the internet.

Working with NFT PRO which is a white-label NFT solution for businesses, Lamborghini will take this unique approach to art to the next level. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will reveal details about this exciting project. This includes the names of the unknown artists and a timeline for auction.

The physical element of Space Key

Following multiple social media posts that tease something space-themed, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has stepped into the realm of tokens that are not fungible (NFT) by launching an exclusive project called Space Key. The NFT was created in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned off within a couple of weeks. It is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part an ongoing research project. The carbon fiber was 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key, which is connected to an exclusive, entirely digital artwork through an QR code on its backside. Only five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that can be stored in distributed ledgers like the Blockchain and connected to digital assets such as images. It's a hot subject among people who have more money than they have common sense. It was only a question of time before automakers decided to take advantage of.

Space Key is made up of five parts. It was developed by using a carbon fiber composite, which was delivered to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will be equipped with an QR code that connects it to a unique digital art piece by the same artist.  The Key Lab  will be made available in the coming days and weeks, including the name of the artist who created the digital art work and the method of purchasing one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

After several weeks of posts on social media that hint at it, a prestigious car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five items that will unlock a special digital art by the yet to be identified artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) The 'collector's piece' is limited to just five units and will be auctioned off soon.

The core of each Space Key is a block of carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved with QR code that links to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that happens seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of the five images was taken by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner utilized a balloon with a camera to take each of the individual images, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is a truly out of this world image that reveals the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned soon, but there is no exact date or location as of yet.
